RENT THE IMPERIAL
The Imperial Theatre was constructed in 1917 and opened in 1918 hosting silent movies and vaudeville performances. The Imperial was designed by G. Lloyd Preacher and noted theater architect C.K. Howell of Richmond, Virginia. It is built in Edwardian style with Sullivanesque overtones. Since being saved from demolition in 1985 the Imperial has served as an entertainment venue for the community featuring plays and musicals produced by local groups as well as ballet and film festivals. Due in large part to the Morris Museum of Art selecting the Imperial as the preferred location for their widely popular Southern Soul and Song music series for 21 years, the theatre has hosted concerts with nationally and internationally popular bluegrass, gospel, Texas-swing, Americana, Rock and Roll, electronic and “New grass” acts.
