The Imperial Theatre opened as the Wells Theatre in 1918. Soon after the name was changed to the Imperial Theatre. Since 2014 the Imperial has completed close to $2 million worth of infrastructure and interior aesthetic projects. The projects include an electrical upgrade, water remediation, new stage rigging and lighting, fire escapes, reupholstering seats in the mezzanine and balcony areas, updating the marquee and adding new electronic message boards, replacing the light board and sound boards, interior plaster repair and paint.

OUR MISSION

THE MISSION OF THE IMPERIAL COMMUNITY THEATRE, INC. IS TO PRESERVE THE HISTORIC INTEGRITY OF THE DOWNTOWN THEATRE, AND PROVIDE A CLASSIC VENUE FOR PERFORMING ARTS GROUPS, ARTISTS AND AUDIENCES FROM AUGUSTA AND SURROUNDING AREAS.

The Imperial Community Theatre, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Contributions to the Imperial Community Theatre, Inc are tax-deductible. Although rental and concession revenue covers the majority of the Imperial’s operating expenses and overhead, that revenue is not sufficient to cover capital projects. The Imperial depends upon generous donors to continue the restoration and renovation of the historic building, as well as efforts to fulfill our mission and allow the Imperial Theatre to remain a vital part of our artistic and civic community for future generations. Whatever you donate will be directed for the capital improvement projects intended to preserve the historic Imperial Theatre.
