The resulting record proposes questions to the viewers through long takes, materialist approaches, selective subtitling, and a focus on various forms of cultural labor.
Southern Soul and Song
Claire Lynch and Jessee Winchester
Saturday, November 15, 2008
7:30 p.m. at the Imperial Theatre
Claire Lynch has long been recognized as a creative influence in bluegrass music—first for her early years with Alabama’s Front Porch String Band, and later for her superb singing and songwriting which have been recorded on five projects for Rounder Records. Two of those recordings were nominated for the Grammys and, among her many other nominations, she won "Female Vocalist of the Year" with IBMA in 1997. Although Lych's songwriting is an undeniable gift, it’s her "captivating," "hillbilly angel" voice which has landed her spots on recordings from Linda Ronstadt to Dolly Parton and many in between.
Jesse Winchester has become best known for his songwriting, also being a singer, guitarist, and keyboard player. Commonly referred to as 'legendary,' and acknowledged as one of the premier tunesmiths of the late twentieth century, his songs include "Yankee Lady," "Rhumba Man," "Mississippi, You're on My Mind," and "Biloxi." They have been recorded by numerous artists including Elvis Costello, Jimmy Buffett, Emmylou Harris, Jerry Garcia, Reba McEntire, Bonnie Raitt, and the Everly Brothers.
